Legislative Priorities

Fiscal Responsibility

Fiscal responsibility is about more than just keeping taxes low—it means every dollar is spent legitimately, administered efficiently, and delivers results. Using my decades of experience in finance and business strategy, I’ll protect your tax dollars and deliver a fiscally-responsible budget that prioritizes our shared values.

Complex criminal networks have been exploiting public trust and stealing taxpayer dollars—money meant to feed hungry kids, house vulnerable seniors, and support people with disabilities. While some politicians are using this crisis for political gain, we need to put aside partisan politics to focus on pragmatic solutions to protect public funding. I support regular audits and modernizing technology systems to better detect and prevent fraud, adding safeguards like in-person visits, expanding agency authority to address suspicious activity, and empowering law enforcement to investigate and prosecute every case.

The government should be a responsible steward of your tax dollars by continually evaluating programs to eliminate redundancy, ensure effectiveness, and improve efficiencies. I’ll support policies that strengthen transparency on how your tax dollars are spent and hold departments accountable for the results.

Regular audits of state programs to improve efficiency and verify effectiveness
Modernize state technology and training to improve fraud detection
Expand state agency authority to stop fraud and recover funds
Ensure law enforcement has the resources needed to investigate and prosecute every case
Impose additional safeguards to ensure public funding benefits the people it’s intended to help
Strengthen transparency on how your tax dollars are spent and hold departments accountable

Economy

I will use my decades of business and finance experience to support balanced economic policies that help small businesses, large industries, and the workers who power them.

Small businesses are the foundation of our economy, while large industries fuel growth and innovation. I support streamlining tax and employment law to help people build their businesses, expanding career and technical training to grow our skilled workforce, and providing robust infrastructure—such as broadband internet—to bolster economic activity.

As a mom of four, I understand the pressures impacting Minnesota families; from childcare to housing to health care, we need to reduce everyday costs and keep Minnesota an affordable place to raise a family. You shouldn’t have to choose between going to the doctor and putting food on the table. I support cost-saving policies such as increasing housing at a range of price points, capping property taxes, ending the tax on social security, reducing out-of-pocket health care costs, and expanding access to early childhood education.

One of the most important roles of a state representative is to advocate for the people of their district and ensure that tax dollars are re-invested in the community. Everyone deserves clean drinking water, a quality education, safe roads, and public safety services—regardless of your zip code. I will collaborate with my colleagues at every level of government to see that our district receives the funding it needs for critical public services. I support leveraging bonding to maintain infrastructure in a cost-saving manner.

Lower everyday costs such as health care, housing, child care, and property tax
Streamline business regulations to make it easier to start, run, and grow a business
Reform the tax structure to improve economic competitiveness
Expanding career and technical training to grow our skilled workforce and create well-paying job opportunities
Ensure working parents have access to affordable child care
Invest in robust public services and infrastructure to bolster economic activity

Public Safety

Everyone should feel safe at school, in their home, and in the community. Building safe communities requires multiple approaches, including economic safety nets, crime prevention, emergency response, and well-maintained infrastructure. I also believe that those who commit crimes should be held accountable for their actions.

I will take action to end gun violence by supporting comprehensive gun violence prevention—not just the parts that are politically convenient. I will vote for commonsense gun safety legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of those who are a danger to themselves and others, including limiting magazine capacity, banning assault weapons, promoting safe storage, and reporting of lost or stolen firearms. I will also work to improve crisis response resources, access to mental health care, and enhance school security.

I’m devastated by the excessive, illegal, and often violent actions we saw from ICE over this past year. I will stand up for our rights and protect the well-being of our community by working with our state agencies to ensure federal law enforcement agents in Minnesota are held accountable for any misconduct. Federal agents should have to follow the same rules as our local officers; I will vote to ban federal agents from concealing their identities with masks and to keep them out of schools, daycares, hospitals and places of worship unless they have a valid judicial warrant.

Safe communities are built on more than laws—economic stability, crisis response, and substance abuse treatment are critical pieces of crime prevention. I will take a holistic approach to crime prevention by providing economic safety nets, ensuring access to mental health and addiction treatment, expanding sentencing options for youth offenders, strengthening accountability for both violent and financial crimes, and supporting our first responders.

Our local first responders deserve the same safety they provide for us. I support giving police officers the tools needed to fight crime, expanding mental health support for our first responders, and establishing safe staffing levels through improved retention and increased recruitment. We should also continue to evaluate training methods and implement evidence-based practices to ensure our first responders have the skills and resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

Every community—regardless of size and economic resources—needs to be able to maintain critical infrastructure such as water treatment, sanitary sewer, safe roads, and broadband internet. As a former city council member I know how important it is to have an effective representative at the state level, especially for our smaller communities here in 45A who depend on bonding and other state aid to sustainably fund our critical infrastructure projects. I will advocate for the resources our local communities need to provide quality public service.

Comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation and community support
Rein in ICE and fight federal overreach
Ensure our first responders have the resources and skills they need to do their jobs safely and effectively
Strengthening accountability for criminals and expanding sentencing options
Sustainable and cost-effective investment in local infrastructure projects

Education

Education is the foundation of our future. Funding our schools helps our children thrive today and is an investment in the educated workforce of tomorrow. I will collaborate with our local teachers, superintendents, and school boards to support world-class education for every Minnesotan, from early childhood education through career training.

Access to early childhood education is good for children and it’s good for our economy. I will work to ensure every child has access to safe, quality early childhood education programming.

Job opportunities in the trades are outpacing our training opportunities, causing a shortage of skilled workers. I support bolstering the career and technical education programs in our K-12 schools, as well as partnering with unions and industry organizations to expand education options in the trades.

I am proud of our excellent local schools and I want to make sure they have the resources they need to continue improving, reduce class sizes, maintain staffing levels, fully fund special education, and expand academic options. To this end, I support giving local communities greater flexibility to fund their schools by lifting caps on voter-approved levies, and I oppose private school vouchers that defund public schools.

Ensure access to early childhood education for every child
Bolster career and technical training pathways from K-12 through post-secondary
Protect public education and oppose diverting funds to private schools

Environment

Our many beautiful lakes, rivers, forests, and prairies are part of what makes Minnesota such a special place, and it is our responsibility to protect them. I will work to conserve our natural resources, improve our air and water quality, and continue to develop clean energy infrastructure.

I will continue working to ensure that all communities have safe drinking water, and in particular, the ability to address contaminates such as PFAS and manganese. Water quality begins at the source with reductions in agricultural runoff, elimination of pollutants, fighting invasive aquatic species, and preventing inflow and infiltration in public water and sewer systems. We must also protect our precious waterways from pollution and misappropriation from out-of-state interests. I support the “Prove It First” legislation to keep toxic copper-sulfide mining out of the Boundary Waters and other watersheds.

We need to continue our transition to 100% clean energy to protect our environment, improve air quality, create new jobs, and reduce utility costs. Expanding our power grid and improving energy storage to better utilize our existing renewable energy resources should be prioritized along with building new clean energy infrastructure.

Public lands are for everyone and they’re a big part of what makes Minnesota a great place to live. From our state parks to our neighborhood green spaces, I’ll stand up for our public lands and protect access to them for generations to come. I’ll also fight against federal attempts to sell the Boundary Waters off to foreign conglomerates.

Ensure all communities have safe drinking water
Defend the Boundary Waters and other wilderness from toxic copper-sulfide mining
Expand clean energy infrastructure to improve air quality and reduce energy bills
Protect access to public lands

Health Care

All Minnesotans deserve quality health care that is accessible and affordable.

I will work to lower out of pocket health care expenses by creating a public option (e.g. allowing people to opt-in to MinnesotaCare), reinstituting tax credits for public market insurance plans, maintaining reinsurance to limit premium increases, and leveraging the state’s purchasing power to lower prescription drug prices.

Lack of access to affordable mental health care not only hurts patients, but also their families and communities. I will advance policies that expand access to mental health care, promote early intervention by expanding youth mental health services, improve crisis response for people experiencing a mental health emergency, and strengthen the mental health workforce so more people can get the care they need, no matter where they live.

You have the right to make informed decisions about your reproductive health care without interference from the government. I will protect access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care in Minnesota, including contraception, fertility treatment, and abortion.

I trust people to make their end-of-life decisions with their doctor—not politicians. I support legislation that allows terminally ill patients to request medical aid in dying.

Make health care more affordable by lowering premiums and reducing out-of-pocket expenses like prescription drug prices
Expand access to mental health care and crisis response
Defend reproductive freedom and access to the full spectrum of reproductive care
Legalize medical aid in dying for terminally ill patients

People Over Politics

We deserve a representative who will stand up for what is right, even when it’s difficult. I’ll be an independent thinker at the Capitol, representing the people of our district—not special interests, not the party line.

Politicians should be accountable to the people that they represent, not corporations, wealthy individuals, or special interest groups. I show this commitment by not accepting any PAC or lobbyist contributions. To remove the influence of dark money, I support campaign finance reforms that would limit spending by special interest groups and improve transparency.

Ranked choice voting enables more people to run for office and reduces extremism by ensuring elected officials receive an actual majority of support. I support the local option bill that allows cities and counties to implement ranked choice voting.

We should be represented by people with real, everyday life experiences—not career politicians. I support term limits for all elected offices to bring in fresh perspectives, break up special interest influence, and promote diversity in representation; but limits should be long enough to maintain institutional knowledge and provide a range of seniority to support new representatives.

Focus on pragmatic solutions and end partisan gridlock
Get dark money out of politics and policy making with campaign finance reform
Reduce extremism and promote democracy with tools like ranked choice voting and term limits
